A Few Things That Describe Me

Hardly exhaustive, but here are ten potential blog topics that talk about my life.

#1. I am a product of grace.

My faith in the Savior who loves me and died for me is the bedrock from with everything else about me stands.  John 3:16

#2  It's important to share the journey.

I have an amazing wife Karen; three married children, Josh and Sarah, Phillip and Gina, and Sarah and Jon; three amazing grandchildren, Kamryn, Kaden, and Andi.  Oh, and a golden retriever named Branson.

#3  The path to the table of leadership runs through the kitchen of servanthood.

For the past twenty years, I've had the privilege of being the Senior Pastor of Chisholm Heights Baptist Church.  They are a patient people!

#4  Avoid left turns.

Don't like 'em.  I have been known to make three right turns to avoid one left turn that crosses two lanes of traffic.  Not proud of it.  But I'll own it.

#5  Avoid the fear of left turns.

Safety and caution are easy places to live.  But I try and remind myself that the real fun and meaning of life is moving past my comfort zone into a place I've not been before.  Joshua 1:9

#6  Respect over tolerance.

I am a person with deeply held convictions, and yet I find myself living in a world where many people do not agree with me.  I do not want to compromise my own beliefs, but whenever possible, I want to find a way to respect the God-given freedom of those with whom I share the planet.

#7  Keep your crayons in order.

Every single time God makes a rainbow, He puts the colors in the same order.  Somehow, I find a bit of 'rightness' when my own box of crayons reflects a similar pattern.  Would that I was only speaking metaphorically!

#8  Time the ultimate currency.

I can save it.  I can spend it.  I can waste it.  Good choices with how I use my time have a wonderful ripple effect in just about every area of my life.

#9  Options are good things.

I like variety.  My music play list is pretty eclectic.  I enjoy several different types of cuisine, but tend to avoid things that are spicy-hot.  My TV fare includes NCIS, How Its Made, American Picker, and lately, . . . I have to be honest, The Pioneer Woman on the Food Network.  Favorite authors include Richard Foster, Al Mohler, David Platt, Stephen King, David Baldacci, and Judith Viorst.

#10  It is a joy to finish.

I think that's why I enjoy mowing the lawn.  There is a moment of standing back and seeing the finished project.  At different times, I have enjoyed running, especially 5k races.  There is a finish line.  Of late, my passion has been woodworking.  There is a sweet moment of 'good' when the last screw attaches the last hinge and a dust rag hits the top one last time.
